Description

Small in scale, but designed with the same layered rhythm and warmth that define the Stratificata collection. The Stratificata Espresso Cup & Saucer condense the collection’s decorative language into a more intimate form, where bold hand-painted detail and clean negative space work together to create balance and movement.

The cup is wrapped in repeating petal-inspired forms painted in warm yellow with deep cobalt accents and fine hand-drawn linework that gives the surface texture and energy. A rich cobalt handle and rim add structure and contrast, while the softly tapered shape keeps the form feeling elegant and approachable rather than overly formal.

The matching saucer introduces a quieter counterbalance. Concentric cobalt and yellow bands frame the luminous white center with restraint, allowing the cup itself to remain the focal point while still creating visual continuity with the broader collection. Together, the set feels layered and expressive without becoming visually heavy.

Designed for espresso, macchiato, or after-dinner coffee service, the set brings warmth and character to the end of the meal—when the pace slows, but the table is still very much alive.

Each set is formed and painted entirely by hand in Deruta, Italy. No transfers. No stencils. Subtle variations in brushwork, glaze movement, and tone are not imperfections, but evidence of the artisan’s hand and the individuality of every piece.

Variations and the Nature of Hand Painting

Each piece is made and painted by hand in Italy, so slight variations are not flaws—they are part of what makes the work authentic.

You may notice small differences in brushstroke, color intensity, shape, glaze movement, rim finish, or surface texture from one piece to the next. These subtle irregularities are a natural result of hand-forming, hand-painting, and kiln firing, and are part of the character and individuality of artisan ceramics.

No two pieces are ever exactly alike. That uniqueness is the beauty.

Rather than signs of mass production, these variations reflect the human hand behind each object and the traditional process used to create it. They are what give the collection warmth, depth, and a sense of life at the table.

Care & Use

Craft & Safety

Each piece is double-fired at approximately 900°C and is 100% food safe. All glazes and colors are free of lead and cadmium and are regularly tested to comply with FDA standards.

Cleaning

Hand washing is strongly recommended to preserve the original finish and vibrancy of the glaze. While the pieces may be placed in a dishwasher, frequent or daily dishwasher use is discouraged. If using a dishwasher, position items securely and with space between them to prevent contact during high-pressure cycles.

Microwave Use

Pieces may be used in a microwave at low power. Handle with care when removing, as ceramic retains heat. As with all earthenware, avoid sudden or extreme temperature changes. Do not transfer directly from cold storage to high heat. When serving hot liquids, pour slowly to prevent thermal shock.

About Crazing

Earthenware naturally expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes. Over time, fine hairline cracks—known as crazing—may appear in the glaze. Crazing does not affect the safety or functionality of the piece and is often considered part of the character of handmade ceramics. Minimizing exposure to high heat and repeated dishwasher cycles will help preserve the original surface appearance for as long as possible.
